It's one of the jewels of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, a pearl nestled in Saint-Porchaire, some 50 kilometers from La Rochelle. Château de la Roche-Courbon has been a family property for three generations, and is listed as a Historic Monument. It hosts numerous events (sporting, cultural, educational), receptions and even weddings during the summer season.

With its formal gardens, majestic lake, avenue of lime trees and breathtaking sunsets that light up the façade of the château, La Roche Courbon is a magical place for a wedding, whatever the number of guests you wish to invite. Whether you have 80, 300 or more, it's impossible to feel cramped in this immense property surrounded by 150 m2 of forest. Special mention must be made of the barn at the entrance to the château, which houses a magnificent little wooden theater. Stunning!

A fortified castle sung by Pierre Loti

With its triangular shape on a rocky spur, its feet in the marsh, the Château de la Roche-Courbon was a veritable fortress when it was built at the end of the 15th century. Two centuries later, it was at the height of its beauty, with splendid formal gardens that would grace the site 15 years before those of Versailles. The French Revolution marked the long twilight of the château, which had to wait until the early 20th century to recover its superb appearance. Pierre Loti, a great lover of La Roche Courbon, had a hand in this resurrection. An article signed by him in the columns of Le Figaro in 1908 urged Paul Chénereau, an industrialist with a passion for art, to save the crumbling edifice. Renovating the entire château, as well as the furniture and paintings, the work undertaken was pharaonic.

Classified as a historic monument in its entirety (building, parks and gardens) in 1946, it was also at this time that it welcomed its first visitors. Today, La Roche-Courbon is one of France's most beautiful châteaux, welcoming over 50,000 tourists a year. And when it's time for a wedding, the doors close just for you and your guests.
